Pathway to College

The key to success

Our students are English language learners who are also first generation-immigrants seeking a college education. The key to their success is multi-faceted. Our foundation includes mentoring, financial literacy, math and English support, as well as financial support to ease their work/life responsibilities.

MENTORING

Through our program students receive mentoring in all aspects of their post-secondary education careers. Students will work with trained school counselors and teachers.

Mentoring will include college application process, testing arrangement, program selection, classes selection, grade and attendance monitoring, FAFSA application and documentation gathering, major/minor selections/ exposure, etc.

ENGLISH SUPPORT

Through our program students will attend the CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP) at Queensborough Community College (QCC). This program has a proven track record to successfully improve students' academic English to prepare them for college credit bearing courses. Furthermore, if students are in need of further support, our program will support students through CUNY START or CUNY ASAP. Staff at QCC is trained to assign students to the most effective next step and to assure they are prepared to succeed in credit bearing courses.

MATH SUPPORT

Through our program, students will receive math support by a High School math teacher. Who will support students as they prepare to pass the math college entry exam. Furthermore, students will participate in life-financial literacy workshops to prepare them to being contributing members of society.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Through our program, students' CLIP tuition and fees will be completely covered. Furthermore, if our scholars do not qualify for FAFSA, our program will help with financial support, NYS Dream Act applications as well as scholarship searches.
